A world of new possibilities. Field, Tree, Lake.....
Artworks by Stanza
Tor Townley from Folly kindly drove me around the lake District looking for locations to place and test my sensor networks and find landscape suitable for my theme. Its pretty hard to get to some of these locations ( the bag of sensors is heavy) and her local knowledge helped find locations for two full tests (and it didnt rain). One reading of a tree in a field ( we did ask the farmer, Tor made me) the other up a hill (which was a bit tough) . Just a note setting up sensor takes a while and its was great to have a willing helper.
A series of sonifications and visualisations of landscapes. This selection features selected spaces in the Lake District. These artworks use ad hoc wireless sensor networks to map live data from light, temperature, humidity, noise, sounder and gps using customised environmental technologies. The environmental data turned into artworks.
The sounds you hear are interpreted XML streams of data acquired and processed in max/msp from thirty motes sensors; this is changed into sounds.
Video Evidence. Reasearhing ideas....towards swarming interactive system.
Setting up ten micro bots for tonight...."infestation" at the Lanternhouse....only other bugs welcome........"Robotica: Infestation:What do robots get up to after dark"........ Somtimes situations demand you just make stuff......this is one of those situations. At night when all is dark the Lanterhouse comes alive strange noises, wierd bangs.....and I could swear the building has life. Tonight armed with only a torch and camera I aim to find whats making all the noise. Video evidence to follow.
In this series will be lake , forest and field.....So I have a couple more to do.
Thanks for the trip to Grizedale....that turned out to be a case of right place right time......and a whole series of contacts where all there at the same time....including Tate Britain who are interested in this idea of CCTV in public space and technology in the gallery, something I am also talking to Lindsay Taylor about. See Public Domain...
A series of techno sublime landscapes made in the Lake District. Artworks using ad hoc wireless sensor networks. which capture environmental data which is then represented as sounds and visual. Live data from light, temperature, humidity, noise, sounder and gps. Made as part of an artists residency in Ulverston at The Lanternhouse within the Folly digital Residency programme. The first piece is called Field and its online.

I am looking for the sublime landscape....any suggestions. And if any of you have cars and are going somewhere nice can I have a lift. Maybe its a big ask
........or does anyone want to share knowledge on this or join in.
The idea is to use environmental monitoring kits ...ie ad hoc wireless networks to make sonifications and visualisations , in this case the techno sublime. The data....( light, temp, noise, sounder, humidyty, gps) is used to represent the landscape .
Anyway
Taylor mentioned an opening at Grizedale....is anyone going? Is there anyone that can give me a lift from Lanterhouse...
